A study in writing – 10.01.09 – 12:04 AM

“First, find out what your hero wants, then just follow him!”
– Ray Bradbury

I began to think about when I started writing, and why it is that I write. The when is unclear; in reality it started decades ago when I was just a child telling far fetched stories, be them on paper or directly to my peers. Sometimes I told them as truths, and I guess sometimes as I saw them, they were; they were dancing images burned into the Cineplex of my mind, clear and true as day. Separating that reality was my nemesis, until I met pen and paper. Then, and only then, there was no need for separation, everything could be true, and it was.

Why do I write? I write to create silence. I write to quiet the Cineplex of my mind that still turns in endless reels of untold wonders. I write for the above, so that all could be truth, and in that truth, all could be lovely. I write because I articulate poorly and come across awkwardly, I write because that is what I am. There are few things that in a single word can define the whole of a person. And though I am one to hate titles more than anything, I quietly embrace the one that embraces me. I am a writer. In every aspect, in every commercial definition, in all of the oddities, it is me and I am it. And that, I suppose, is reason enough for me.
-Briggs

Greetings Vanillaites!

This is our space to let you into our worlds as the editors of Vanilla. No, not the business plans, and tireless hours put into submissions, marketing and branding, although we’re sure some of that will be snuck in as it is a part of us. This is a place to get to know us, our ins and outs, our day to days, what we write, what we draw, what we photograph, our perception of the world around us. Our plan is to update this regularly, to show you our inspirations as to inspire you also.
